Ontonagon Area Trail Report – 03/05

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott’s Superior Inn and Cabins >> 03/05

Well, we gave er’ a try today and found out! We will be staying put to let the water under the snow settle as well as wait for better visibility. Trails are drifting shut as fast as we pan them open.

We will regroup this evening to see if it makes sense for Mike to head back out tonight or wait for dawn. Porkies will be groomed tomorrow. Enjoy the powder day everyone! We surely got the snow forecasted!!

Thank you Mike C. and North Coast Steve Hamilton for putting the effort in today!!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> Are you out riding anywhere today?!
Justin Stoderl is staying at the Root Cellar Resort and actually went out to ride this morning.
Justin said “13 N leaving Root Cellar this morning. Plenty of good snow, once groomers get out it will be perfect. Few small drifts on 137 use caution… Landed here in Ontonagon.”
Thanks so much for sharing Justin! Be safe and keep us updated!
IF anyone attempts to ride PLEASE use extreme caution and be prepared for possible downed trees, water hazards hidden under fresh snow, blowing and drifting snow etc!
It will take a bit for grooming operations to be able to get trails back in shape!
If you don’t already have the Groomer Tracker app we highly recommend you download it and subscribe to the clubs where you ride! #keweenaw #westernup #snowphotos

WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> Snow map is holding strong based on latest guidance!
I see the small NW shift on the Euro. However, the HRRR and GFS have been doing well this season and are holding steady with my map below.
This will start after sunset tonight and continue through very early Thursday.
The 24" potential is in the high terrain west of Marquette NOT for the city itself. I think a foot is possible there, though! Marquette is in my 10-14" / 12-16" band so essentially 10-16" of snow.
Remember the WIND will be strong. Gusts 40-50mph will common in the UP with the snow coming down. Blizzard conditions are possible. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaSnow map is holding strong based on latest guidance!
