Sault Ste. Marie Area Trail Report – 03/12

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/12

3/12/25
Good evening! Traffic is pretty quiet around here. Turbo and Diane took advantage of the low traffic, and worked to remove downed trees today. They took the tracked SxS on 8 and 889 to clear trees after the wild winds yesterday.

As you can see, trail base is very solid still. It sure would be nice to get some fresh snow on top, but the forecast doesn’t look promising right now.

Thank you Turbo and Diane for donating your time to clean up the trails today!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> The work week ends mostly quietly as partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected overnight tonight. Ahead of disturbed weather this weekend, Friday will see a warm day for most, with some areas even breaking the 60 degree mark. A few isolated rain showers are possible and a rumble of thunder, while rare, can’t be ruled out. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaThe work week ends mostly quietly as partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected overnight tonight. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> With a recent lack of snowfall and mild temperatures, we have certainly seen quite a bit of snow disappear! Here at the office we are (roughly) down to 6 inches. Snow is deeper in some parts and lower/gone in other parts of the property but after this weekend, most if not all snow will be gone. For any winter lovers... The U.P will be your best bet for any winter activities for the second half of March! Disclaimer... This snow depth map is not 100% accurate. As many of you know, snow does not accumulate or melt the same over very small locations. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey #straitsarea #soo #newberry #seney #munising #marquette #westernup #keweenaw ... SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/11/25
Thank you to Turbo for sendig these pics of trail 8 between at Irish Line, and to Brimley Bill for clearing the trees and branches that fell. It’s WINDY here today!
As you can see, trails are still flat and fast, and may have some brush down in other areas.
Be safe if you venture out! #soo #snowphotos

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/11/2025
Good morning all!
We saw the warm temps and sun all day yesterday, so we lost quite a bit of snow. Today, it’s very windy which can also be a snow killer.
Grooming is still on pause due to warmth. We had riders check in yesterday that said the trails from the Soo and to Brimley, Raco and Bay Mills are still pretty dang good! Getting through towns and parking lots is bare though. Still lots of base on 8, 889, and the northern part of 480.
There is a lot of water on 49 south past the Soo. That trail may be done for the season, unfortunately.
Already heard sleds go by my place off of 8 this morning. Sounds like north of M28 is your best bet if you’re getting those spring rides in!
We’ll keep you updated! #soo
