Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/19
Our Big Snow Country official Season Snowfall to date is now 110.3" with 22" on the ground – more snow on its way. GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY are out grooming daily, reporting trails are in good to very good condition. They are still logging on 11S and 160, so use caution and watch for logging trucks. Use caution-corners may be a little icy on Trail 2 between Ramsay and Wakefield. Watersmeet Area groomers are also grooming daily. They are reporting all trails are in good to very good condition. ABOUT THE ICE: Our 800# is down so when calling you will not get a recording. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!!! Check back for updates and check out our webcams around the area at westernup.info …. PHOTO REQUEST from us. If you have any neat snomo pictures you’re willing to share,we’re looking for a cover shot for next years map and other marketing uses. Can’t pay but will give a photo credit on inside of map. Send in jpg-300dpi-to bigsnow@westernup.info. Be aware anything you send will become the property of the WUPCVB so this request is more for amateur photographers…in other words, don’t send anything you may want to sell in the future. We appreciate any help on this.
Lake Gogebic Area groomers are grooming daily. With all the new snow they received, the trails are in good to very good condition. However, some corners are icy, so use caution.
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you plan to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for more information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.
NEW FOR 2010/11: Powderhorn Road is now open for snowmobile traffic. Big Powderhorn Lodging guests now can ride from their door and access to over 2000 miles of groomed UP and Wisconsin trails.
