Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/03
With temps being in the 20’s looks like the weekend will offer some goood riding. Our Big Snow Country official Season Snowfall to date is now 130.2" with 22" on the ground. GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY groomers are out grooming daily keeping the trails in shape. All trails are in very good condition. Take advantage of the scenic lookouts over looking Lake Superior on trail 160. Signs are posted…Enjoy the beauty this area has to offer. Lake Gogebic Area groomers are out double grooming daily keeping the trails in good shape.. Groomers are reporting all trails are in very good condition,but again watch corners, they may be icy and obey stop signs Please !!! Just to let you know that there will be logging starting on Trail 1 between Fishtales and accesss trail to Gogebic Lodge. Signs will be posted so use caution.. Also on trail 1 closer to Presque Isle, snow is a bit thinner so expect good conditions in this area. Watersmeet Area groomers are also grooming daily. With the new snow they have gotten groomers are reporting all trails are in good to very good condition. Again corneres are icy and please stop at stop signs… ABOUT THE ICE: Our 800# is down so when calling you will not get a recording. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!!! Trial 11 S is in very good conditon but does have a stretch where they are logging so watch for logging trucks. Logging trucks do have the right of way… Signs are posted. Remember corners can be icy so use caution….Make sure you make it a point to stop at all stop signs…some have not been stopping at the signs so PLEASE STOP!!! Be Safe…

Monday: 6am – trail 11S/Trail 2 to Ironwood
6pm – 11N/Ironwood to Bingo’s
Tuesday: 6am – Maintenance/Bessemer to Bingo’s 6pm – Ironwood Run/Trail 160.
Wednesday: 6am – 11S/Tula-trail 8 6pm -Trail 2 to Marenisco/ Trail 2 to Ironwood.
Thursday: 11N/Maintenance 6pm Trail 2 Ironwood/ if maintenance is done on the other groomer possible another run to Ironwood
Friday: 6am – Trail 2 to Marenisco/160 6pm – Trail 8 Tula/Ironwood Trail 2
Saturday: 6am – 11S/Ironwood Trail 2 6pm – 11N/Trail 8 and Trail 2 Ironwood
Sunday: 6am – Trail 2 to Marenisco/Trail 2 to Ironwood
6pm – Trail 8-Tula/160
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you plan to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for more information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.
