St. Ignace Trail Report – 02/27
Things are pretty much whipped back into shape after some decent traffic to Trout Lake over the weekend. It is kinda tough scheduling groomers right now. I am trying to preserve snow, so I won’t run them everyday, yet the 2 or 3 days between grooming is actually developing some decent bumps in the higher traffic areas. It is what it is I guess. DNR has been really good about letting us run when we feel it is necessary, so I don’t want to waist diesel on already flat trails. Please understand if you come across an area that isn’t perfect, we will get it groomed up in a day or 2 at the most. Trails are still ridable, and holding a base in most areas. Getting to the overpass in Iggy just plain sucks due to Hockey the last couple of weekends. All that is over, and as soon as we get more snow, I will work on getting that trail back in shape. A short piece of the RR Grade just outside of Iggy, and in Moran are in tough shape, as well as the pipeline and a 200 Yd piece of the Dam Rd. There is a little bit of dirt starting to show in the truck trails on the Northern end over the weekend, you can only use snow so much before it wares out. It is holding for now, but need something to whiten it back up a bit. Our Sunday night predicted snow did not produce anything, we are getting a very small bit today. Wednesday is supposed to be the big turning point, with another major storm predicted for next weekend. Weathermen are still not nailing down either storm track yet, but local TV is calling rain/ice South of Gaylord, and 6’+ in the EUP. That will be all we need to have superb trails, so we will keep a close eye on that.
