St. Ignace Trail Report – Straits Area Snowmobile Club – 12/21
Good that the weatherman got it wrong this time, end of the world forecast was 1225d with fireballs in the sky. It may still happen between the hours of noon and 6pm, but in the meantime, we got SNOW! My forecast was correct, on my street we got 5′, but up on top of the hill, and just outside of town looking at 10′. 10′ reported in Moran, 12’+ in Cut River, and 14’+ in Trout Lake. This is the best storm I have seen for sledders in over 3 years, I can’t remember the last time we got this much of HEAVY WET snow. The ground is still warm, and we didn’t have much frost with all the rain last morning, but we will work it a little and it should form a good base. Forecast for the next couple days is sun and cold temps, so it should stay around. Santa delivers a white and RIDABLE Christmas this year. Trails will be busy all over the state this weekend, so please remember this is still early season riding, there are no corner signs out there, and sometimes people are stupid – be safe. The heavy wet snow was pulling tree branches down, so be on the lookout for trail obstructions today and tomorrow. Now, for what you all been waiting for…. The groomers will be rolling around noon today to cover the whole system, minus Cedarville connector. Guys are digging out at home, and then will be hooking up a drag and headed North. I probably won’t get pics today, but will get you some eye candy as soon as I can. Happy trails.
