Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/17
We have received about three inches of new snow over night. Snow showers in the forecast for the next several days, but no great accumulation forecasted. Temps will be in mid 20’s Friday and Saturday, and single digits Sunday and Monday. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority report the groomers have been taken of the trails until we get more snow. Expect bare spots and icy corners and poor conditions. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: They have not had much snow to get the trails in shape. They rolled the trails earlier but with the lack of snow they are unable to go out. Expect icy corners and bare spots. Groomers are ready and waiting to go out. The Watersmeet groomers have not gone out yet, they need more snow. There is very little to no base. They are biting at the bit to go out and groom. The 2nd Annual Radar Run will be held on Lake Gogebic in front of the Gogebic Lodge (Hwy 64) on Feb. 2nd. There will be stock and modified classes, trophies and a bikini run. Two tracks – ice and packed snow. For more info call Kent at 906-842-3324. All areas need more snow….keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by. Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!
