St. Ignace Trail Report – 01/24

Another arctic night, with -15d and current temps at only 5 above.

Trails are in good to excellent condition, with the South end thin and somewhat icy, with the North areas having more cover. The whole system has a good ice base now, the Southern areas have between 1 and 4” inches of cover and the Northern end 3-8”. Trails are so good I am holding off today’s groomer run – it would only mess up what we have built out there – so the soonest they will run is Friday night if we get the predicted 2-3” on Friday.

It sounds like all of our connecting clubs have finally pushed through and at least got connected to us once. You will find superb riding out there on our system. You can get around Iggy with no major issues, Trout Lake has lots of snow. The only negative that has been reported to me is the RR Grade in the Moran area is thin like always. You will find some rocks on top of the ice there, and as the weekend progresses it will get worse –nothing we can do about that right now.

Forecast is good:
§ Tonight Snow showers, mainly after 1am. Temperature rising to around 12 by 4am. Wind chill values as low as -2. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
§ Friday Snow. High near 21. Wind chill values as low as -3. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around 2 inches.
§ Friday Night Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 12. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
§ Saturday Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
§ Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 8.
§ Sunday A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27.
§ Sunday Night A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 23.
§ Monday A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32.
§ Monday Night A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 26.
§ Tuesday A chance of rain, snow, and freezing rain. Cloudy, with a high near 35.
§ Tuesday Night A chance of rain, snow, and freezing rain. Cloudy, with a low around 29.
§ Wednesday A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Breezy.

As you can see, they are talking about a bit of a warm-up early next week. Downstate is supposed to be worse, so I am hoping that we will hold onto what we have now.
