Michigan Trail Report

Newberry Trail Report – Halfway Lake Resort – 01/30

Well, we received 5" of wet snow 1/28. Yesterday 1/29 there was a slight drizzle in the AM and warm temps throughout the day. Our snow gauge went from 18" yesterday to 14" at 10AM today. Our gauge sits in an open field off of the lake, so it is subject to sun/wind all day. The snow on the ground appears wet and heavy, not the "hard and crusty" stuff you expect after rain. This makes a prime base after the temps cool further. The temp is now 29 and expected to fall; it is snowing. We are in the graphics to receive 12-16"+. TASA groomers state they will hit the trails when it is 28 degrees.

Guests who rode yesterday AM said that some of the trails were the best they had seen all week. They reported #9 to be good and trail #8 to Grand Marais as fair/poor due to the bumps- it needs to be groomed. It is pretty quiet here this morning- it looks like everyone took off to enjoy the trails.

Bottom line? There is still quite a bit of snow on the ground, which will make for a great base. I am unsure at this point if the trails are all icy or just have icy areas. We have asked our guests to update us on conditions when they return. We will update you as soon we know more. If you have been out riding and you are able to email us an update, that would be appreciated. Please understand we are unable to reply to emails regarding trail conditions/updates. We will do our best to compile this info and post.

We are located 12 mi NW of Newberry and 7 miles S of Pinestump Junction. Between Grand Marais and Paradise.

We are full through Saturday night with an opening beginning Sunday for 2/3, 2/4, 2/5 and full again until 2/10.
