Michigan Trail Report

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/30

We have a Lake Effect Snow Advisory in effect from today until Friday at 6am. Depending on which station you listen to we will get anywhere from 5inches to a foot of new snow. Let’s hope it is a foot. Temps will be in the single digits for Thursday and Friday and warming up into the teens for the weekend.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: I just got word from the GRTA one groomer is back up and running. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood is groomed and is in good condition. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Marenisco will be groomed today. Trail 8 will be groomed tonight and trail 160 is going to be groomed tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow they will have the other groomer up and running. I will keep you posted as soon as I find out. Until trails are groomed they will be in poor conditions. After the groomers get out and groom the trails all trails should be in good conditions. Trail 11s and 11n are on the schedule to be groomer so as soon as they can they will get to these trails also. Please use caution corners are icy and trails are rough.

The Lake Gogebic groomers report: All trails are in good condition. All trails are groomed. Trails on the south side of the lake, going to Presque Isle snow is a little bit thinner but rideable. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PULL OVER IF YOU SEE A GROOMER. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY… Don’t forget about the Radar Run this weekend in front of the Gogebic Lodge.

Watersmeet reports Groomers did not go out last night due to the warmer weather but they will go out tonight. Trails are in fair to good conditions. Please use cautions corners are icy. Trail 3 south to Land O Lakes the snow is thin but rideable. With more snow on the way trails will continue to improve.

Keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!
