St. Ignace Trail Report – 01/31
Back in business again. Last day of January, and the official 1/2 way point of the season. It looks like it is finally going to be winter, at least for a while. Everyone knows the entire state had a big melt down earlier this week, and it hurt alot of places, our trails included. All of the paved streets were down to blacktop, the unpaved roads down to bare dirt. We lost about 1/3 of our overall snow depth. Last nights big storm, ended up giving us around 3′ in Iggy, 4-5 North of here. The first was super wet heavy snow, the last part was a dry sugary snow, which is what it mostly turned into. It has pulled us back into riding condition, with no major problems out there. I will give a more specific report after both groomers report in. however, trails seem to have held up, and will be in decent shape after today’s groom. Groomers are headed out this morning to pan everything down, and then will run nightly through the weekend. We expect high traffic for the I-500 weekend, so be on the lookout for fellow riders, especially on Saturday. It has turned cold, and things overall have frozen back up, and even the town roads are travelable at this point. I expect the RR Grade will continue to be thin in Moran, and icy in a lot of places, but should have good lubrication snow, and be perfectly ridable with a few rocks poking through between M-123 and Moran. Forecast over the next few days seem to be good, the cold will hold what we have, and maybe a little fresh here and there to make things look nice.
