Newberry Trail Report – Halfway Lake Resort – 02/28
Well, the snow gauge is no longer stuck at 32" it reads almost 34"! Not too bad considering it sits in an open filed off of the lake and we’ve had some mild days in the low 30’s. The base is great- hard and 18 plus inches. We have had 2-3" of heavy snow since last night. It has cooled down and the groomers have been out doing their thing. Temps look to remain cold through the weekend. Guests are saying the most snow is found between here (north-west of Newberry) and west towards Grand Marais. They reported some snirt on trail 8 east of H-37 (Pine Stump) towards Paradise, mostly in corners, but overall a very good ride. Less snow and more snirt on 45 but still good. 431, 43, and the 8’s (see exception) were reported to be "phenomenal" yesterday. The evening ride on 8 from Grand Marais to Pine Stump was reported to have bumpy sections but it is most likely due to the daytime traffic. Visit the snow depth chart to see that our area truly has the most snow! Paradise is reporting a lot of off trail riding in the clear cut Duck Lake Fire area. They have seen stump-snowmobile collisions. Ride safe, they guise themselves as drifts! -Nicole We are located 12 mi NW of Newberry and 7 miles S of Pinestump Junction. Between Grand Marais and Paradise. Thank you for your phone calls. Availability:Full 2/28. Openings beginning 3/1.
