Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/11

MARCH 11 – The trails have been deteriorating rapaidly as he have had two days of rain and warm weather. The White Pine and In-Town trails are pretty much bare as are some of the wooded trails in the forest. The forest roads have ice on them yet so if we got some snow there would still be good riding. At this point, we are not grooming.

MARCH 9

The warm temperatures are taking a toll on the White Pine and in-town trail but the forest trails remain in good shape. The trail coordinator just emailed me and told me ‘The trails are smooth.’ Who doesn’t like to hear that! There is still lots of snow and an ice base under the snow. This afternoon we checked out the 33 Rd Staging Area and found 14 vehicles and trailers. That means there are still plenty of folks riding yet.

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas mentioned in the previous posting (see below).

There’s still some good riding in the forest but it would be a good idea to plan on starting from one of the following staging areas:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Our groomers are out there every day as long as temperature and snow conditions permit. Keep in mind the drags don’t work when temperatures get much above freezing. That’s also the time when trail conditions deteriorate quickly.

There isn’t much if any snow in the immediate forecast for us. It’s March though–anything can happen.
