Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/18

Received the following update from our trail coordinator this morning:

‘I went for a ride yesterday. The trails are MUCH better than I was expecting:

The ‘In-Town’ trail is mostly dirt and not rideable.

The ‘White Pine Trail’ has several large bare pavement spots and sledders SHOULD NOT be riding on it.

The rest of our trail system is mostly covered with a layer of SMOOTH frozen ice with a couple of inches of snow on top of it. There are only a few small bare spots where the direct sunshine is taking its toll. With the forecast of new snow almost every day this week, the trails will survive for another weekend of sledding. There were not many riders on our trails this weekend, as most people think the trails are worse than they are. I would rate the trails at least a 8 on a 10 point system if you park and ride from one of the stagging areas. PLEASE be careful as there is ICE every where and it is easy to loose control going into the curves! Winter Promotions is not grooming currently as there is no need for it but that could change later in the week if we get enough snow to make grooming worthwhile.’

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas below:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Note: The porta-a-johns were removed from our staging areas today as our contracts on them expired 3-15-13.
