St. Ignace Trail Report – 03/28
Overall conditions are good to very good, and for the last week of the season, I would say they are beyond excellent. I checked the RR Grade out of Iggy this morning and it is in very good condition, with the exception of about a mile of slush holes between Cheeseman Rd and Castle Rock Rd (about 2-3 miles out of town.) Perfectly passable, and the depth of the holes shows the 6′-12′ base still on the trails, even the grade. The RR Grade is thin in the Moran area, mostly slushy, and not really a lot of dirt poking through yet. The forest roads are in excellent condition, and flat as a board. Our Western trails are in really really good shape, and the only issue to note is the Huckeberry section up by Trout Lake. The ditch is passable, but the county scraped the shoulder again, so it is March riding. The trails are freezing hard, and icy at night, and soften during the day. Overall riding out of town should not be a problem this weekend, and anything North of town should be good to go even next week. If you would rather bypass the slush holes, and you are on a trailer anyway, google map the east end of Castle Rock Rd, drop and ride from there, it connects with the main trail and you will be in good shape. Saw 2 trailers unloading there this morning already. Talked to 2 nice Canadian guys who drove 6 hours to get here, and did a 3 day ride out of here on Monday. They said that Newberry had more snow, but overall they thought the trails were in excellent condition, a ton of fun and ‘way better then home!’ Hope to see them back next season. Trails are in good shape, and just so you know what I mean, here are some pics out side Iggy. Fist is about the worst spot we have, there is about 1 mile of this total, everything else looks like the next pic. More pics on our site from this morning. (groomer is just a great pic from last month). NOTICE: Our Cedarville trail connector has active construction on the power line near Mackinac Trail. I am working on a re-route, but currently you will be on the shoulder for those 2 miles, as the power line is off limits. Base: 12 inches Snowfall Past 24 hours: 0 inches Last Grooming: Friday or Sat last scheduled Current Trail Conditions: Good
