Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – Gaylord – First Ride – December 17, 2014
Finally — all this great snow and up until this afternoon all we had done was to shovel, plow, and take pictures of it. We got the sleds out of their hibernation. They were ready to ride. My sled was eager to get going. When it started up it went charging out the garage. No hand was on the throttle. After a few times of clenching it… no further problems there. Trail 7 was good. The section south of Waters to Frederick was very good. We enjoyed riding trail 4. As I have been saying there is plenty of snow. Groomer had been out and it was pretty smooth riding. Just a few bumps along the way. There is still alot of loose snow. Its going to be warming up .. just a bit…. and that will give the snow moisture and pack down. That’s the plan. Fresh snowfall is expected again tonight – one to three inches. A couple days of temps in high 20’s and then cold cold and snow. The news tonight showed Gaylords average snowfall at this time is 39 inches. Snowfall this year already is 76 inches!!! Impressive. The trees are still very heavily frosted with snow. White frozen beauty everywhere. We took a break atop a small hill. Shut the engines down, took our helmets off and just sat. Listening to quiet. Winter quiet. Not a sound. <>
