St. Ignace Trail Report – 12/26

Santa delivered us a late Christmas present in the form of over 6′ of lake effect. The forecasts over the last couple of days were just funny, and went from 2-3′ one hour, to 8-13′ in another, shifting from far West Mackinac County, to SI.

What we ended up with was some system snow in Cut River, and then added Lake Effect with all LE here in Iggy. Off trail should be interesting with all the pow out there, it has got to be Paradise deep out there in the woods. Trails are packing down OK, and after giving our groomers time with their families over the holiday, they will both be out running late tonight. The result should be an easy 6′ base, with 24’+ off trail. Trails are shifting into excellent condition, with no major issues to worry about. You need to be aware that there is some logging plowing roads in the core of our system, and we are attempting to work with them to keep snow on the trail. There is flowing water over the trail on the RR Grade, 5 miles South of Trout Lake, but North of M-123. Bobby is going to put some hazard signs out tonight, as there is a 12′ drop in the trail and nothing we can do about it but groom over it.

Forecast is perfect for sledders, and pre New Years weekend will be epic. Take Monday off, make some reservations, and head North!
