Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/03
Bitter cold today with snow in the forecast. Saturday will be high on the teens but again it will be below zero at night. Sunday through Tuesday the temps for a high up until Tuesday will be a -10 below zero. Please dress so you have no exposed skin. Wednesday they are forecasting a high of 8 and 1 for the low. Thursday into next weekend we will be in the double digits…..HEAT WAVE with more snow. All areas are reporting with this cold blast our trails are well packed. The snow we receive today will help a great deal. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Reports trail 2 was groomed last night from Bessemer to Marenisco and is in good condition. There is one section by Bingo’s where logging is taken place so use caution in this area. Signs will be posted. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood will be groomed this morning. Trail 8 was groomed last night and is in good condition. Trail 160 will be groomed today. Trail 11N will be groomed this weekend, removing all trees which are down on the trail. I will give a full report on this trail on Monday. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. Please dress warm this weekend. The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing during the day but will not groom at night because of the extreme cold conditions. Trails are packed really well do to our cold weather. Condition of trails are good to very good. Watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area. The gas station in Bergland has reopened and is renamed the "Bergland Outpost" this is great news. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Groomers are out every day and trails are in good to very good condition. Trail 3 N from Land O Lakes is in great shape, Trail 2 E to the intersection of 107 is in great shape, Trail 2 W to Trail 13 is in great shape. Trail 13S to Cisco Chain of Lakes is in good condition and Trail 3 S is in good condition. Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
