Michigan Trail Report

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/13

Good News!!! Our temps are in the double digits which are above zero along with snow in the forecast. Snowfall to date in Ironwood is 69.1 inches while some places may have more and other may have less.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Trail 2 is groomed and is in fair condition. Right before Wakefield you will encounter some wet spots along with some icy spots, so use caution. Trail 8 is groomed and is in fair to good condition. Trail 160 will be groomed today. Trail 11N was groomed; and is open all the way to the lake. Watch for wet spots where the swamps are still not froze. Please be careful on corners, snow cover is thin. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming has resumed. We went from deep freeze to a mild weekend. A bit warmer than we would like to see for good trail condition. The good news is it is suppose to drop back into the teens and twenties for highs this week and lows into the single digits…perfect weather for good grooming. Watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area. The gas station in Bergland has reopened and is renamed the "Bergland Outpost" this is great news. Please stay on trails…this weekend we had a lot of reports where sleds were not on the marked trails; this jeopardizes our trail easements!!!!

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Trails are in good to very good condition.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
