Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 01/15
Finally! We were able to get out for a ride. Just our second of the year – which is just sad. After this past weekends brief warm up, freezing rain the trail was groomed while still soft giving a firm base when it froze solid. It started snowing late afternoon yesterday. Heavy snow. This morning riders were talking of their rides last night trying to see thru the snow. It was low low visibility. Most everyone had a fun ride last night. Moments of w0rry of trying to stay on the trail when the trail couldn’t be seen! Terry and Julie/from Ohio report they could barely see each other as they rode last night. They reported the trails as some of the best rides they have had in many years. We received about 6-8 inches here, but all around us they reports were of 6 inches to 14 inches. Just what the trail needed to make riding more enjoyable. We headed out on trail 7 and then took trail 4 over to Lakes of the North, ending at The Settings restaurant for a late lunch. Trail 7 was very good. Trail 4 had several areas of up/down bumps mostly in the corners. The sharper the turn, the rougher the trail at that spot. There were very few riders that we saw for such great snow conditions. Mid week riding is the best. Its looking like a busy weekend coming up. We are booked this weekend, and even the next one. Hopefully we can squeeze in a ride again soon. Ride safe and enjoy the great outdoors on the snow. <>
Overall we all agreed that it was a good ride! Its just always refreshing to be outside enjoying northern Michigan at its best in the winter.
