Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/18
Blue skies and sunshine today with a high of 37 today. We are finally getting our January thaw in February. For the next couple of days our temps will be in the 30’s, with our nights in the teens and 20’s. On Friday our temps will drop again into the teen and single digits for the week. Night temps will only be in the single digits. Our trails are in the best shape they have been in for years……come up and enjoy some great riding. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Trails are in good to very good condition with Trails 11 is being groomed right now. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Marenisco was groomed this morning. Trail 8 was groomed last night and Trail 160 will be groomed tonight. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: No problems to report on any trails. The groomers have been busy knocking back corners where they’ve become banked up, making our trails even safer for riders in the area. Our trails are getting many kudos so come on up and enjoy the best riding ever. Also, we should be getting some relief from the very cold temps this week. We will be only using 2 of our 3 groomers as we have had problems with our oldest groomer. However, we will still keep up our grooming schedule to the best of our ability until the third groomer is back on the trail. We are happy to report less snowmobile traffic riding on the railroad tracks through Merriweather and Bergland. There are a lot of snowmobile tracks running on the railroad tracks and it can get confusing…but don’t follow blindly along other snowmobile tracks. When in doubt, look for trail signs. If you see a R/R sign, guess what? You’re on a railroad track! Get off of it ASAP!! You could get stuck on the tracks and you could get a ticket for riding on them. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Trails are in very good condition. Come out and getting some great riding in. Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
