Michigan Trail Report

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/24

We have one more week before grooming stops. Come up and enjoy some great riding. Our temps today will be in the 20’s and tomorrow our high will only be 14. We have plenty of snow and trails are in great shape so what are you waiting for, it doesn’t get better then this for you last ride. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority:
Grooming is ongoing. Trails are holding up with our good base and lots of snow. Groomers are reporting all trails are in good condition with the exception of11N which is in fair condition. 11N hasn’t been groomed for several days but are reporting it is still in good condition. Please use caution on corners they can be icy. The DNR reports that trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report:

Trails over the Gogebic Area Grooming area are in excellent condition with 8-plus inches of new snow that fell over Friday!!! It looks like we’re in mid January rather than the end of March. This is really going to make for some fun riding. Get your sleds loaded and head up for a great ride. We will be grooming all or our trails through the end of the month, however, you can still ride the trails as long as we have snow…and this looks like it will be a good long time still. Temps are expected to reach teens for highs through Tuesday with lows around zero – perfect for grooming, perfect for riding. So don’t put your snowmobiles away just yet…you’ve just got to come up and enjoy a late season ride in our beautiful northwoods! One word of caution; watch for water running over a portion of trail #1 South, between Hwy. 2 (that runs south of Lake Gogebic) and the Gogebic Lodge (about halfway up the lake on the west shore). This area has been signed and it is still possible to ride around the wet area. Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. We’ve had several reports from snowmobilers in the area about this. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report:
We are Grooming Nightly as long as the temps allow.
7″ of new snow on March 18th has turned the late season riding into some of the BEST! The trails are groomed in in super shape.
*CAUTION WATER ON TRAIL# 3 – Trail 3 south of Watersmeet, south of US45 heading to Land O Lakes has an area where a creek has dammed up flooding water and ice onto the trail. PLEASE USE CAUTION Caution tape is up but other areas could form! We are working on the issue, equipment and people could be on the trail also!
All other trails are in good to excellent condition! Come Ride!
Come Ride!
Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
