Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/26
Grooming is still ongoing. The trails are in great shape. Temps today will be a high of 31;tomorrow will be a different story. We are expecting freezing rain in the morning changing to snow later in the day. We will have to wait to see what we get and if our groomers will be able to go out. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding for your last hurrah!!!! The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Trails over the Gogebic Area Grooming area are in excellent condition with 8-plus inches of new snow that fell over Friday!!! It looks like we’re in mid January rather than the end of March. This is really going to make for some fun riding. Get your sleds loaded and head up for a great ride. We will be grooming all or our trails through the end of the month, however, you can still ride the trails as long as we have snow…and this looks like it will be a good long time still. Temps are expected to reach teens for highs through Tuesday with lows around zero – perfect for grooming, perfect for riding. So don’t put your snowmobiles away just yet…you’ve just got to come up and enjoy a late season ride in our beautiful northwoods! One word of caution; watch for water running over a portion of trail #1 South, between Hwy. 2 (that runs south of Lake Gogebic) and the Gogebic Lodge (about halfway up the lake on the west shore). This area has been signed and it is still possible to ride around the wet area. Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. We’ve had several reports from snowmobilers in the area about this. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU. Call our snowmobile report at 800-522-5657 anytime.
