Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/03
It is EARLY SEASON RIDING….For the remaining of the week daytime temps will be in the 20’s with lows in the teens. We have plenty of snow but our problem are the low lands and swampy areas, THEY ARE WET!!!! Please use extra caution in these areas. Our groomers can’t get to some of these areas because of the water. Please be patient…hopefully they will freeze soon. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Reports Trail 2 from Marenisco to Hurley is groomed. Use extra caution between Wakefield to Marenisco. There are several swampy areas which are wet. Trail 8 to Tula is groomed, again watch for wet spots. Trail 11N has been packed. We need some cold temps to get these wet spots to firm up. The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Since it is still early season riding the groomers are out packing the trails and in some places they will be out with the drags. Trails 8 east, and 1 north will be in the best shape for riding with the driest conditions for the early season. Try to avoid trail 8 west. There are some bad areas of water on this trail. All the other trails will be very wet. Some good news with all this snow Trail 13 south will be completely open for opening season. This trail is still very wet and groomers have not been able to pack this trail yet. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Groomers are out getting the trails ready for the season. They are reporting some wet spots in the lower areas so please use caution when riding. It is still early season riding. Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
