Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/10

It is EARLY SEASON RIDING use caution … Today’s temps will be in the 30’s with lows in the teen for tonight. Tomorrow we will have a high of 34 with lows in the 20’s. Over all conditions are fair with wet areas.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report: Trail 2 to Marenisco is in fair to good condition with some wet spots east of Wakefield going to Marenisco. Trail 8 is groomed and in good condition. 11N will be groomed only as far as conditions will allow. There are a lot of wet spots; conditions are poor please use caution when riding this trail. Trail 160 will be groomed today but expect fair condition and again expect wet areas.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday groomers will not go out due to the warmer weather. Weather permitting they will be back out Sunday night.
Trail 11 south will be closed for the season due to logging.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report: They have had groomers, with drags, out on Trail 1 north, 8 west and 8 east. Watch for the “wet area” signs on Trail 8 west. Groomers have been on all other trails packing the snow. With the incredible amounts of snow received in Nov., it served to insulate the wet ground. As a result, they are dealing with some wet conditions on some of the trails. It is very important to stay on the trails, as conditions can be worse off-trail. The nights have been cold, so trails should be freezing wherever the groomers have run.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report: There is no change the system is still being groomed nightly as conditions permit. The trails are in good to fair condition. They are firming up nicely. It’s still early season riding and there are some wet spots on Trail 2 between Trail 13N intersection and Marenisco. CORRECTION: While the Cisco Bar Resort is closed, there is still gas available on the Cisco Chain at Vacationland Resort, The Arrows and Jays Resort. The orange barrels marking the local path across the chain have not been put in place yet. Once the locals feel it is safe enough for traffic, the barrels will be put out. Until then, it is NOT recommended to cross any lake.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
