Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/11

Our forecast for the weekend looks like we will have warmer weather. They are calling for the high on Friday to be 36 with low of 27. Saturday temps will rise up to 40 with the low of 36. Sunday they are calling for a chance of rain with the high of 40 and low of 32. These temps will not help our wet spots…but we have a whole season in front of us so be patient.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report:
Trail 2 is in fair to good condition with some wet spots east of Wakefield going to Marenisco. Trail 8 is groomed and in good condition. 11N will be groomed only as far as conditions will allow. There are a lot of wet spots; conditions are poor please use caution when riding this trail. Trail 160 was groomed it is in good condition with a wet spot about half way up the trail. Please use caution when riding the trails it is still early season riding expect wet spots….
Trail 11 south will be closed for the season due to logging.
Groomers will be on hold for a few days until weather permits them to get back out.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
Our groomers have been out packing almost our entire trails system, but groomers with drags have only run on trails 8 east, 1 north and 8 west. However we’re experiencing some extremely wet conditions on 8 west right now. It would be best to avoid this trail until we receive colder temps. Don’t try to by-pass the trail by riding to the side of it as the water conditions are even worse off the trail. We’re hoping to have trail 102 open this week as well as 13 north. Although the gates are still closed on 13 north, if you’re very familiar with the trail, you can ride around the gates for now. As the groomers make their way up 13 north they will unlock all the gates. That’s the way we do it every year. While our groomer drivers are making progress on 13 south it still has not been groomed with a drag yet, however, you can still ride along the side of East Shore Road.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Trails are in good condition! We’ve had very low traffic and cold temps at night so the groomers have been out making a great base! Forecast is for some warmer temps over the weekend but the groomer drivers say the trails should hold up! Still please use caution when riding in the early season! Keep an eye out for the groomers you never know what they might be doing right around the corner!

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
