Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/19
MORNING UPDATE: Groomer operators reporting back that the trails are coming out in fair to good condition on trail #8 going east and northwest of Raco. The packed snow outlasted the rain and the new snow worked in real nice. Still early season conditions with very little base but rideable. DECEMBER 19 – It was 1 below last night and with the 2-4 inches of snow we got on Wednesday we did some grooming in our dry areas this morning. Trail #8 from the Soo west thru Brimley, Raco and then north to where we turn around half way to Paradise will be groomed and should be in ok shape. Our other trails have way too much water to send in the groomer yet. Right now most of them are frozen enough to hold your sled but not the groomer. Via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association on Facebook Dec 19 – Groomers reporting trails going east and northwest out of Raco, trail #8, in good shape, we turn around at Gravel Pit Road halfway to Paradise. Dec 19 – Temps dropped to 1 below last night and groomers went out in our dry areas. Trail #8 going west from the Soo thru Brimley, Raco, and then north half way to Paradise where we turn around will be in ok condition. We will evaluate our wet areas as the water slowly moves away on when to groom. Most of them will have enough ice to hold your sled but not the groomer. Dec 17 – The temps did drop to below freezing last night and we got 2-3 inches of fresh snow but all ditches and streams are running full due to the rain yesterday. No snow in the forecast until middle of next week. Grooming prospects do not look good for this weekend. Dec 16-Rain and warm temps the last 5 days have our 50+ inches of snow in November just about gone. Temps are to drop tonight and maybe 1-4 inches of snow but that is all that is called for in the near future. So it don’t look good for grooming. Trails are open and you can now ride your sleds legally. We no longer have good snow in most areas. We need cold weather now to freeze them up. Soo to Kinross is not frozen yet as well as Kinross to Raco. If you go for a ride I would recommend avoiding those areas that are always wet until we have cold weather because you will get soaking wet. There is no use us wasting fuel and breaking equipment until colder temps are called for.
