Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/29
Temps dropped to the low teens last night and stayed there all day along with 2-4 inches of snow. More snow to the north less to the south. Groomers will be going out tonight on trail 8 around Raco. The temps are to get in single digits tonight and be cold the next week. There is still lots of water to freeze solid enough to hold a groomer but at least it will hold your sled. Overall trails are still poor but we hope to be able to do some packing near the end of the week if the snow keeping falling. Via Sault Ste. Dec 28 – It has been above freezing for the last 4-5 days with rain yesterday no snow. The temp did drop to 26 last night and it sounds like it is to stay below freezing for the next few days. We need the cold to get all the new water refrozen and then some snow. There is still an icy/snow base left on the trails but not very desirable to ride on but you could if so desired. Merry Christmas – We did not get any new snow that lasted. Temps are already 36 degrees and the same for Friday so I don’t think we will be able to groom anything til Saturday when cold returns. Trails are rideable but poor! Some have not seen a groomer yet do to all the water. Dec 23 – Nothing new or good to report on trail conditions. The temps have been hovering around freezing since Saturday. We did have a inch of snow overnight but it suppose to rain this afternoon but maybe a snow/rain mix tomorrow. Some sections of our trail have not even seen the groomer do to water, we would break up ice that the sleds can ride on. There is enough snow on most sections of trails to ride but not very good. We need cold weather now to freeze them up. Soo to Kinross is not frozen yet as well as Kinross to Raco. If you go for a ride I would recommend avoiding those areas that are always wet until we have cold weather because you will get soaking wet. There is no use us wasting fuel and breaking equipment until colder temps are called for.
