Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/31

With our cold weather, things are starting to improve. Cold temps and snow showers are in the forecast through the weekend but they do not give an accumulation.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report:
Trail 2 between Marenisco and Korpela Road has a two mile detour TFN due to a bridge washout. The rest of Trail 2 was groomed Tuesday and is in good condition. Trail 8 to Tula is being groomed today and is in good condition. Trail 160 was groomed Tuesday night.. Conditions are now fair to good with some wet spots and be alert for logging operations. Trail 11 South is closed for the season due to logging. Trail 11N still has not been groomed due to the wet spots but they are hoping to get this groomed on Friday.

We have had reports of signs being removed from the trails. If anyone sees someone removing the signs please report them. The signs are there for a reason so please leave the signs in place. This is for the safety of the riders..

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
Conditions have improved with the severe cold we’ve been experiencing. There are still some wet spots, but they are slowly freezing up. Trail 102 is still not worth riding, at least not for the next couple of days. There are wet spots south of the Root Cellar on 13 South. All other trails are reported to be in good condition. Watch for signs to show a change on trail 1 South from Rd. 8800 to Marenisco. With the much colder temps finally here it should help a lot with wet areas, but it will take time. Our groomer drivers are working hard to get the trails in great shape.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Groomers are running daily and the trails are in good to very good condition. There are areas with wet spots where caution is still needed! There is a lot of traffic, so be careful and stay on your side of the trail.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
