Benzie Area Trail Report – 01/16
RIDEABLE Not our best… There is not a significant amount of snow for grooming operations. Our head groomer Jeff has let me know that. NO, trails were groomed today all 3 tractors are parked till we receive fresh snow. Groomers we’re out on Tuesday night, Please show some respect for the guys grooming during the late hours. Wednesday we found, Drag racing every couple hundred yards leaving big piles and ruts for miles on a fresh groomed trail. And Thursday we found a Truck, that tore up trail #3 north of Coates Hwy. this does not help! He was stuck with police out there to get them! We are warmer temps and peck-a-boo sun to cloudy with very few flurries of Lake effect snow last night. As we were working on smoothing ruts and were starting to set a thin base. Our total now is 10 to 15 inches of snow on the ground but not on our trail. The condition of base is fair to poor in many places, as last weekend traffic did thin the trail in some spots snirt to dirt and is icy to muddy on some curves, be careful. It was very busy for first ride of season, seen many sleds go by lasts weekend enjoying our winter wonderland. If you do ride this weekend please be slow and easy on what is left of our base with near 40 degree temps possible on Saturday. If big crowds at Tip up town is not your thing then come enjoy our peaceful wooded trails this weekend. With that said what are you waiting for… Just load it up, come on up to get out and enjoy your ride. Look below the map for our next 5 day forecast! Not quite ready for our favorite saying, “Well groomed and ready to ride” need some **wet packing snow** warmer temps are helping our packing but not on trails. You can help by getting your dancing boots to start stumping a snow dance. Thanks for riding our trails. We do maintain it for all you winter sports enthuse to enjoy now get out and ride. Groomers say they are all out and that there is still 12-16′ of snow out there. They are panning it hoping to keep the base we have started. We are getting a little warming trend for a few days it looks like with a bit of lake effect possible. The warm up and the panning with cold temps at night should pack that base. Weekend traffic is hard on the trails, making them thin in some areas and icy on the curves so be careful. The groomers will be out trying to stay ahead of it as much as they can! So get out while ya can but go easy, don’t go digging ruts for the next guy! So we need more snow so do your dance, pray, or cross your fingers, whatever it takes! By the way there is a Snowmobile Safety Course coming up this weekend for young riders between 12 -16 years old from 9AM-11AM at the Benzie Sheriff’s office in Beulah. Call 231-882-4484 to pre-register. AND for the riders out there remember the Benzie Manistee Snowbirds Clubhouse has an OPEN HOUSE every Saturday in January & February! Stop in at 14121 Industrial Drive in Kaleva. Fun conversation, free warm-up coffee or hot-coco & a snack provided by the club! OK! So till next time keep up the snow dance and I will SEEYA on the trails baby! http://www.visitbenzie.com/seasonal-snow-reports-24/ <>
