Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/06
FINALLY we are getting some winter weather. Our temps for this coming weekend will be in the single digits for highs and below zero for the lows with some snow in the forecast. This will help to firm up our wet spots. Things are finally starting to look up. Please remember it is still early season riding and we are encountering a lot of wet spots use caution. The former Gogebic Range Trail Authority now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting: Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood is groomed and is in good condition. All of our trails are in early season condition so please ride with extreme caution as you may come across very wet and rough areas. Groomers are out working very hard with the snow that we do have so please bare with us. Think snow!!! PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS, RIDING ON A UNMARKED TRAIL MAY RESULT IN THE CLUB LOOSING EASEMENT TO THE PROPERTY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. The Lake Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting: Please check locally for lake conditions. It is changing hourly. We suggest strongly to stay OFF THE LAKE. Watersmeet Groomers are reporting: Each Western U.P. snowmobiling adventure is unique and exciting, as there are over 2000 miles groomed trails, unplowed logging roads, secluded National Forest trails throughout our area. Explore a Western U.P. winter and share the experience of a Western U.P. snowmobiling vacation with your family and friends. This is what snowmobiling is all about. Because when natural beauty, brilliant exhilaration and good times come together, the sensation is Pure Michigan. Big Snow Country is a Snowmobiler’s Paradise. This heavy snowfall gives you, the rider, the very best conditions and trails. Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marinesco was packed on 1-2-16 and is in poor to fair condition be prepared for wet spots. We need more snow so we can start grooming.
Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula has not been done we hope to have a machine out this weekend.
Trail 160 is in very poor shape with lots of wet and rough areas, please ride with extreme caution we need cold weather and snow to freeze the swamps.
Reminder that trail 11 north and 11 south are closed for this winter season. The section of trail from 11N to 11 up to trail 102 is not being groomed due to the closure of 11N.
Finally, the forecast is calling for more normal winter weather! Snow is in the forecast, starting Wednesday, for each day for the next 2 weeks (at this time). No big storms predicted at this time, but we know from experience how quickly that can change. Bitter cold temps coming by Sunday with only single digits for highs – this is very good as we need these temps to freeze up any wet areas on the trails. However, if you are in the area take precautions against frostbite and always ride with a buddy. Cross your fingers that this all means winter has finally arrived in big snow country. I will keep you posted with any updates on the weather and on the trails.
