Indian River Trail Report – 01/07
We didn’t get any sun yesterday but temps did get a bit above freezing. There was no big melt-off though; just a little softening. The groomers were out last night and flattened the trails for overnight freezing. So trails are flat. The conditions we’ve reported all week still hold…Good riding in the woods and fair riding on the railroad grade’s exposed areas north of town. The “business loop” of our wooded trail is in fair condition because it’s a main trail artery. The Alanson connector has snirt but is flat. The most snow quantity-wise seems to be from M-68 in Indian River south to Wolverine. Temps are still under freezing as of this report. Forecasts are calling for temps to climb a little above freezing this afternoon. The air has a lot of moisture in it and snow is expected to move in tonight. We’ll be waiting and watching, fingers crossed for the white stuff and cooler air! Check back in the morning… Last January we took delivery of a new grooming drag. The State approved our purchase and this drag was custom-made for us by the experts at Dubie Welding & Fabrication in Gaylord. We’re glad to support local, Michigan business with this purchase. And since this drag was for with State dollars it’s nice to know your trail permit money is coming back around. Support snowmobiling and trail development by purchasing your trail permit today! Available at snowmobile dealers and other locations around the state. If you’re interested in supporting local grooming efforts, visit www.justgroomit.org for details on joining the Indian River Snowmobile Grooming club with a membership donation. We have hats and t-shirts (short & long sleeve) for sale too. Even when we can’t groom we still have operational expenses like insurance, two-way radio communication subscriptions, maintenance of our new grooming building and more. Thanks to member donations we’re almost done with interior/finish construction at our new equipment barn! We now store and can work on the grooming equipment only yards from the DNR trailhead. Your support makes all the difference.
