St. Ignace Trail Report – 01/11
What a big difference a weekend makes. It rained for 2 days and was 42d on Friday. Temps dropped Saturday night, and it brought some snow. A ton of schools are freaking out about a few inches downstate and are closed, but it doesn’t seem that bad to me. By Monday morning the St. Ignace area has 4’+ of new snow and with the cold temps everything should finally be frozen up out there. The issue is all that snow is super light, and is going to pack down to less then 2′. Over the next few days we should be over the worst of early season conditions, as the forecast is calling for cold temps all week with a few added inches here and there until the next big question mark, which is Friday/Saturday. Some are forecasting 1-2′ of snow Friday & Saturday, the local TV is calling for a rain snow mix across the area. That could setting the snow in and create a perfect base, or just ruin all the work we are putting in. Forecast will get clearer over the next couple days. As of right now, I would say it is time to start making plans on where to go for the coming weekend, make your final decision when you see what Fridays warmup will bring. <> Visit Straits Area Snowmobile Club Website >>>> <> Latest Trail Reports – Quick Links <>
