St. Ignace Trail Report – Straits Area Snowmobile Club – 02/25
Big storm, huge. All South of us. We got zero, where only 60 miles South they got 9′. Scrooges. OK, so you know the Bent Ski Classic Adventure Run (clue/scavenger hunt) is this weekend here. http://www.straitsareasnowmobileclub…ead.php?t=1776 Upcoming weather is just fine, kinda warm in the day, kinda cold at night. We will hold these conditions for the foreseeable future, new snow would be welcome. They are talking a small clipper system for Sun & Mon, maybe that will give us a bit of a shot. Now I am guessing that 3/4 of the state is going to head for the heart of the storm downstate. That area is forecasted to have 40d temps this weekend, and will be a nightmare. Buck the trend, head a bit farther North, and check out our Bent Ski Classic. Registration is free, there will be a trail stop with a fire and goodies, and fun for the whole family. A great way to spend a day riding some good uncongested trails. I will be at the trail stop, and also the ending party, hope to see you there! <> <> Visit Straits Area Snowmobile Club Website >>>> <> Latest Trail Reports – Quick Links <>
So how are the trails? Well as you also know we got majorly hit last weekend, we groomed at just the right time, and everything is almost perfectly flat, there is just not much out there. Base is ranging from 2-6′, and some areas are icy. Most all of it is hard. We ran groomers last night to scratch up some cooling snow, and cover a couple problem corners – the drivers said although not ideal, we are good to go. This is late March type riding right now, so please understand what you are getting into, it isn’t perfect, but defiantly serviceable.
Town trails are a mix of hard shoulders, and bare pavement. You can get to both gas stations, but 1/2 your trip isn’t good. The RR Grade trail North of town, after the castle rock rd intersection, and all the way up to Moran is mostly gravel, so take the West side of the lower loop out of Iggy. For numbers folks, Don’t travel #2 North of #471 to Moran. North of Moran is OK though. This section of trail will need 6′ to fix it back up, where the rest is only 2-3′ to be perfect. Getting into Brevort will also necessitate some side of road riding, defiantly some pavement along there. Epoufette and Trout Lake are just fine.
