Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/30
We have gotten 5″ of new snow with flurries in the forecast for the next several days. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority reports: Trails have good snow on them. Lots of traffic so corners are icy (swept). We have grooming operations running day/night but with warmer temps and the countless sleds it will be hard to get a hard base established until after the weekend. The hills between Wakefield and Bessemer are icy, encouraging riders to maintain speed and not spin their tracks. Wakefield to ironwood groomed last night. I’m heading out to groom halfway to Bergland and then to Marenisco. Any emergency or dangerous situations to report please call 608-577-6653 Lake Gogebic Area Groomer Report Trail Condition: Fair December 29th, 2016 We’ve got the cold and now we’re getting the snow! We are under a “lake effect snow warning” from noon today thru Friday morning. We may get up to an inch an hour (already have a couple of inches over the last couple of hours). Do keep in mind that visibility will be an issue so reduce speeds accordingly. There will also be strong winds creating blowing and drifting conditions. This will certainly help the condition of the trails. The groomers have been out cleaning up brush that came down with the high winds we had over this last weekend, but now they’ll have something to work with after this new snow. Even with the cold temps there continues to be wet areas on certain spots over most of the trails so keep an eye out for that, just don’t stop if you find yourself going thru one of these areas. That’s all for now, I’ll keep you updated as conditions change ** Also, please keep in mind that this is family vacation time so there will be a lot of young ones out on the trails as well. Please ride responsibly and watch out for others. *If you’d like additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com. You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Hope we see you soon – for those of you already up here have a safe ride! U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet Groomers Report: Trail Condition: Fair All trails were groomed 12/24 and are in fair condition. We received some snow with freezing rain Christmas night and warm temps early today but we are back in the 20’s and with very light traffic the trails should have held up. We really need more snow so keep your fingers crossed! The groomers will not go out tonight 12/26 but will run tomorrow Please stay on trails, riding on unmarked trails can result is the clubls losing easement for the trail. So Please say on trails….. <>

Trail 11N (Southboundary Rd) / 11S (Winchester, WI):
Overall Raiting: CLOSED for the season. Seeking volunteers to help open the trails!
The club is activly seeking help to get the trail evaluated and prioritized for opening 11S next summer. One of the areas most favorite trails was lost due to logging operations and an inability to reroute. Then, the task of getting the trail back open was hindered by beaver flooding issues and a lack of labor. We need volunteers to step up and help get this gorgeous trail open next season!
