Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/25

Greetings Sledders,

Things aren’t looking so pretty good for this weekend. I took a road trip today to take a gander at all of our crossings and found that basically the trails north of Frederic still had some snow on them and as you travel to the south of Frederic the snow gets thinner to the point of turning to dirt when you get to M-72 and points south.

There is snow in the forecast for tonight and we are in an advisory area until 5 tomorrow morning. I’m doubting that this will be enough if it does happen due to the ground being very wet and the majority of the snow that does come will be snuffed out by the water.

Cold temps are in the forecast for this weekend and once the trails freeze I will send groomers to the north and to the east (the Lovells trail looks to be in decent shape) to get a better assessment of what is actually left. Generally there are two things that drive grooming activities, those being snowfall and traffic. If we don’t get the snow and there’s something left to work with and traffic dictates we will do what we can with what we’ve got. If that means going over the road to get to workable snow it won’t be a first time, it’s happened before.

This certainly gives new meaning to the phrase ‘January thaw’. Usually a day or two or maybe three, but half the month?

I’m calling it not-rideable to poor.

Good luck.

Keith, Sandy and The Girls
