Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/27

January 27th, 2017

Not the greatest news but still an improvement over this last week. All 3 groomers are in working condition and ready to roll whenever and wherever we can. Temps are still dropping closer to where they should be with highs in the 20’s and lows in the teens and single digits expected over the next 10 days. However, we still haven’t received more than a couple of inches of new snow. There is snow in the forecast each day over the next week – hopefully that will include a good snow storm.
Since yesterday trail 1 north was groomed and is in good condition with no wet spots. Trail 8 west was groomed only as far as Hwy. 64, the remainder of this trail to the county line is bumpy and muddy in the wet areas. Trail 1 south has major water problems with 2 beaver ponds that have reopened. Trail 13 south is bumpy with wet areas. Trail 13 north is bumpy with a few wet areas. A groomer is riding Trail 8 east just to pull more snow back onto the trail. Trail 102 was groomed almost the entire length but had to turn around to avoid tearing up a large wet area even more. Apparently there is a “snow bridge” to the side of this wet area where you can ride safely around the water, it just isn’t stable enough for a groomer to ride on it.

Streams, rivers and swampy areas are not safe at this time, please avoid.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticketed. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant. If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.

. *If you’d like additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com. You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Hope we see you soon – for those of you already up here have a safe ride!

However we’d greatly appreciate a donation of any amount.
