Gaylord Area Trail Report – VisitGaylord.com – 12/06
Well here we are up to Dec 6 and we had a little bit of white fall on us over night. Well the weather says we are in a winter advisory mode we only have a slight dusting of lake effect snow on the ground. The pic below was at the trail head parking lot just west of Grayling from this morning. We are still a long ways off from any riding around here. Weather is calling for more snow north of us. So far I am not aware of any riding anywhere. I am keeping an ear out and will keep waiting on the real snow to hit us. Well the lake effect looks nice it takes an awful lot to add up to anything. With all the rain and wind we had in the past couple of days if it would have been cold enough we would have 3 feet now….but our luck just isn’t that good. Also for any of you that may be wanting to leave your sleds up north I have one storage unit that is big enough for 2 sleds available. Its a 10 x 12 unit. Still lots of room for outside trailer parking in our fenced and secure Sledheads Storage area too. Thanks for checking in. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. This system appears to be more straightforward than the previous one. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> 8:40 AM ET radar update: Widespread stratiform rain near central MI and in the lower elevations, with a wintery mix over the hills of northern lower, and snow near the tip of the mitt, eastern upper, and in the highest elevations. Precipitation will continue through the day and should remain light. Heavier precipitation will likely be this evening and tonight over areas north of M-55. The first polar front will sweep through the Midwest on Thanksgiving day bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. Lows below zero are expected for some across the north and in the single digits down to I80. Highs this weekend will only be in the single digits and teens for areas down to I80. Dangerous wind chills of -20 degrees or colder are increasingly likely, especially north of I90. The graphic below shows the temperatures on Sunday morning.
Another polar front will move through next week bringing even colder temperatures.
