Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/09
and so it begins, the first sleds of the new season have rode into Frederic. The honor of the first ones go to Mark & Marissa Lewis from Midland. They parked out in my back parking lot and were going to head off towards starvation lake. Yesterday the only sleds that were in here were on or in trailers and they were heading off to other places. Had a crew in here from Flint and Big Rapids this morning too. So well I still say its early for riding and we need system snow. Good thing is there are some predictions for system snow and a clipper this coming week so maybe we can really keep what we do have. Mark said there were 4 sleds at the gas station when they came into town this morning. I also just received an email from Diane at the Starvation Lake Store and she said they have 16 inches there. Pictures below from this morning and the trucks from yesterday along with the Christmas train that stopped in Grayling yesterday. It was all decorated up and of course Santa was inside to visit with the kids. Thanks for checking in. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. This system appears to be more straightforward than the previous one.
