Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/14
Baby it’s cold outside. I only had 5 below at my house but then I went out to Grandma’s to plow and she had 11 below this morning. That was about 8 a.m. and now at almost 11 oclock its up to 15. We had another few inches of snow fall yesterday but not much new overnight. So total I say we have around grayling and Frederic 8 to 10 inches of fluffy snow. Had to riders in from Logansport Indiana yesterday and they parked in my back lot to head out for a ride and that was the only 2 sleds I had in here yesterday. I never did see them come back so I don’t know how their ride went. I went and looked north on trail 7 just up the road and there weren’t even any fresh sled tracks on it. I did plow my back parking area this morning just to make it easier for trailer parking. I am just glad the cold is staying so what we do have can get packed down. <> Visit Sledheads of Frederic Website >>>> <> UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> One week to go until the trails open…..fat chance of there being any snow , so my best guess is the wait will be on. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. This system appears to be more straightforward than the previous one. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> 8:40 AM ET radar update: Widespread stratiform rain near central MI and in the lower elevations, with a wintery mix over the hills of northern lower, and snow near the tip of the mitt, eastern upper, and in the highest elevations. Precipitation will continue through the day and should remain light. Heavier precipitation will likely be this evening and tonight over areas north of M-55. The first polar front will sweep through the Midwest on Thanksgiving day bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. Lows below zero are expected for some across the north and in the single digits down to I80. Highs this weekend will only be in the single digits and teens for areas down to I80. Dangerous wind chills of -20 degrees or colder are increasingly likely, especially north of I90. The graphic below shows the temperatures on Sunday morning.
Another polar front will move through next week bringing even colder temperatures.
