KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort – Good morning Kruppers! DECEMBER 22 As of 12/22/17, the Keweenaw Peninsula has 18″ of snow on the ground and has received a total of 97″ of snow for the season. Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open but are in early season condition. Some groomers are out panning trails and clearing hazards. More snow is needed. Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is low snow cover, rocks, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified. The Portage lift Bridge is open for snowmobile traffic and the mat is down. Trail 124, 132W and 133 are temporarily closed for logging. The first polar front will sweep through the Midwest on Thanksgiving day bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. Lows below zero are expected for some across the north and in the single digits down to I80. Highs this weekend will only be in the single digits and teens for areas down to I80. Dangerous wind chills of -20 degrees or colder are increasingly likely, especially north of I90. The graphic below shows the temperatures on Sunday morning.
Another polar front will move through next week bringing even colder temperatures. Expect reinforcing shots of very cold air over the next couple of weeks. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #petoskey #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity~First Polar Front Thanksgiving~
