Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/01
Greetings Sledders, Yes I know that I’m tardy with this but I’ve yet to figure out a way to update and groom at the same time. I’ve been in a tractor since Tues and got a reprieve yesterday due to it being ridiculously cold. Got up at six to find temps in the neighborhood of 17 below and decided to cancel all grooming for the day. A multitude of bad things can happen in that kind of weather, none of which are good and the worst can be gelling of the fuel in the filters, killing the engine and also the heat. It’s not worth the risk. Some trail segments took a beating from heavy traffic and from heavy grooming which has made them pretty snirty. We’ve gotten some snow off and on, or on and off depending on how you wish to say it and it has helped to keep those stretches in an overall fair condition. Be advised however, that there are pieces of that trail that I would consider to be in poor shape and will continue to be that way until we get measureable snowfall. Specifically the trail I’m talking about here is trail 7 which is basically the I-75 of trails near Grayling. Trail 79 is in a little better shape and trail 47 to Lovells is better yet. It remains early season riding with a mixed bag of conditions which is typical after a Holiday weekend. We groomed today and will continue tomorrow and Wed with Thurs being up in the air because daytime highs are not expected to break zero. That’s it for now, next report sometime this week.
