Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/06
Make Me Late for Work…..that’s just they way I like it, started this morning out with an incredible 2 1/2 hour 50 plus mile ride to work. I left home a little after 8 and headed south past camp grayling and then west thru the back of the camp all the way out to the cranberry lake trail which had untouched fresh groomer tracks on it. Thru the camp was very good but I did hit some hard and icy spots but still way better than I expected. Rode cranberry up to 72 and stopped for gas at Bears Lair. Both Kalkaska groomers were out and working. Headed north out of there up to Cameron bridge road and then on into Frederic. Did some doodlebug trails that I haven’t been on in a long time. When I was younger and had nothing better to do I would spend hours and days on the trail west of camp grayling. Funny how those twitsty trails come back to me after all that time even though they have butchered off many of the pretty forests they have back there and including the corner of Cameron bridge road and Manistee River road. My heart just sank when I saw that cut off area this morning. Still a great ride home last night and a great ride back here, I need to do that more often. Yesterday I had just walked into my front room after warming up one of the coneys that Brook and Kathleen brought me the other day and just like a beagle with his nose to the ground who rides up on his sled and comes in but none other than the Mountain Man himself. First thing he asks is if I am going to give him a bite of my coney. He would have to wrestle me for it as I wasn’t giving it up…..He was out on his sled as his truck is still broke down. After he realized I wasn’t sharing he went to the Swamp for lunch…..So anyways was later getting here than I wanted to this morning but there were no tracks in the drive so I didn’t miss anything. Weather forcast for the rest of the week looks favorable for conditions to keep improving and I am hoping I can get out again. Most of pics below are from this morning. Thanks for checking in.
