Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 12/21

Greetings Sledders,

It was a fairly slow weekend in Grayling this last weekend and we had 7 trailers in the parking lot which was more than all of the other Motels combined and for that we thank you so very much. You are appreciated more than you will ever know.
We had a mix of new guests and those that have been with us for many years and all reported riding conditions that ranged from good to excellent. Report objective accomplished, let everyone know what to expect. We want sledders to be pleasantly surprised with conditions as opposed to unpleasantly disappointed. Some, like the Wagners, rode primarily on trail and we have several friends of Fay’s like the Williams’ that specialize in off trail riding and new to us are the Chants, that I believe did a mix of both. All had good times.

NEW STUFF:
For many years the Grayling Visitors Bureau (Ilene) has been posting the trail report on Fishweb and she has done a masterful job at providing you with accurate information about our trail conditions. Unfortunately that reporting media is going to change as a result of a change in Fishweb’s policies in terms of who can post a report and who can’t.
I don’t wish to get involved in conversation about the policy change in this forum as it’s really none of our business. The owner of the web-site can do as he will with his product. This is not to say that Grayling will not have representation on Fishweb, as we are accuately aware of it’s popularity with you sledders, therefore in the near future this report will be posted on that venue and if all goes well it will be sooner than later. Please give Ilene a big shout out for all that she has provided over the years. I don’t know that her behind has ever been on a sled but I do know that she’s done a hell of a job at keeping you informed for many years.

LET’S GET IT GOING SHALL WE:

TRAILS:
I rode with Groomers Art and Bill today and we covered the entire circuit save the Skyline piece of trail that goes basically nowhere and we found snirty conditions on the most popular routes and some very good conditions on the less travelled routes. Typical for what I still consider to be early season conditions until we get more snow to work with which could be coming just in time.

GROOMING:
We are grooming specific segments based on our assessment ride that we went on today. Most of the system is in good to great shape in terms of flatness and we are deploying equipment accordingly. Needs to be flat before the next weather event regardless what it looks like snirtwise. There again not a recognized word but I’m going with it anyways.

WEATHER:
An event is going to happen by Christmas day. To what extent that it will be snow and to what extent that it will be rain to start and then turn to snow is to be determined. All in all it looks like we will get our fair share of white stuff to make for a good holiday week. No guarantees but things are looking fairly positive at this time.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls
