Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/22
Late season riding conditions: Bill Gohr has been up riding here in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula and this is a detailed report from him! Thank you Bill for taking the time to share this information, I know a lot of people really appreciate it! <> Today (Thursday) is sunny and 32 degrees. The trails south of Houghton are holding up pretty good. However it’s getting very thin through South Range. Western & Southern UP Snow Reports on Facebook >>>> <> This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Thursday, March 22, 2018. Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and in Fair to good, end of season condition. Grooming has been suspended until we get more snow. Trails on the south end are showing end of season wear. The trails on the north end are still in pretty good shape. Trail 133 is now closed for the rest of the season, due to logging. Please respect this closure and stay off the trail. There is still plenty of good riding on the rest of the Keweenaw Snowmobile Clubs trail system. You can still get in and out of Gay via trail 122/124. Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away. The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trail are there for riders’ safety so please DO Not remove or destroy them. “Lisa Hentz Roller here is a Trail report 3/21/18. I stayed at Krupps, so 3 from greenland to copper harbor is flat and hard, kinda perfect. 13 from Twin Lakes to Greenland is perfect. the loop is perfect. 122 from 3 to Gay is a 9 except for the half way point where you ride on the dirt road is bare, but the trail part is a 9. 124 from Gay west across is perfect. 3 from 124 to 134 is as fast as you can drive. 134 across east going out to the point is perfect to 135. Going out to the point is bumpy but not so bad, kinda of normal. Bumpy compared to everything else. 135 from 134 is perfect all the way to where you drop into town, town is as expected. Going out of town up to the top is perfect, the top is still all snow and all the way back down back to the grade is perfect. Great late season riding, get up there if you can.Keep in mind cutting through Hancock on 3 to Lake Linden is thin, just get through there quick and you’ll be OK. Cutting across the channel is still OK. Bill Gohr
One thing, keep in mind in the morning the trail is very hard, if you have ice scratchers, use them, If not just grab loose snow where ever you can till the sun loosens everything up.” THANK YOU Bill and all other riders helping keep people up to date with their personal opinions! 📷———> DL Wally
