Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/19
Today will be a high of 40 with a low of 31. Tomorrow the high will be a high of 33 and a low of 22, with a bit of snow. Any little bit helps at this time. For the next week our temps will be in the 20’s with lows in the teens and some snow flurries. Trails are early season riding, expect icy corners, water, mud and gravel on some trails. The Gogebic Trail Authority is reporting a portion of trail 2 was groomed on the 18th. From Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing conditions are good. From Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield it is poor to fair. The .5 mile long Prospect Rd route is tough, concrete is bare and we can’t groom ditch trail. Wakefield to Marenisco is fair to poor. It was last groomed on the 15th. This area has a few wet areas. The pipelines and power line sections have some very wet spots. The logging crews left a packed snow base which is most likely gone now. YEILD TO LOGGING OPERATION TRAFFIC, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT AWAY SO PLEASE USE CAUTION. Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is fair. It was lasted groomed on the13th. Use caution on the Railroad where Trail 2 and 8 intersect the rails and ties still intact, the snow bridge may have melted down so be careful. The Gogebic Area Grooming section on Trail 8 has a large water hole so alternate routes from Bergland are suggested. Trail 160 from Wal-Mart to Montreal River in WI is in poor to fair condition. It was lasted groomed on the 12th. The southern section is muddy and rocky. The Powers Rd Recreational Area the conditions are good. Trail 11s Wakefield to Winchester, WI is poor. It has not been packed or rolled. The snow is much less in the southern part of the trail Plans are to groom the northern part of the trail by the weekend weather permitting. 11N is closed. The Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting the trails were lasted groomed on the 5th. They are recommending holding off riding until we get more snow. The Gogebic Area Groomers have a couple of closures/reroutes. Trail 1 north of the West Shore Resort is being logged this year. A reroute is being worked from Trail 1 to Trail 8 east. Trail 100 to connect to Trail 13 is also being logged this year so a possible reroute is being planned. The Watersmeet Thunder Riders are reporting groomers are still in the barn. More snow is needed before groomers go out. Trails are in poor condition early season riding. PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU. <> <> <> Latest Trail Reports – Quick Links <>
We will keep you posted on the reroutes. In the meantime we need to wait for snow. Hang in there.Postings From Regional Pages On Facebook
