Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/31
We have another Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Tuesday morning. They are calling for 2-8 inches of new snow. This should help our trail system. We still need some cold weather to firm things up. Trails are still early season riding; expect icy corners, some dirt, water and mud. The Gogebic Trail Authority is reporting Trail 2 has been groomed on 12/30 over night. Conditions are fair, too good, and in some spots very good. Expect icy corners, between Wakefield and Marenisco logging is ongoing. Remember logging trucks have the right away so please slow down. Trail 8 was last groomed 12/30. It is in good condition. Please be aware of the large water hole on the Gogebic Area Grooming section. Alternate routes to Bergland are suggested, Trial 2 to Marenisco and Trail 13 or 1 to Lake Gogebic. Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River in WI was last groomed 12/29 and is in fair to good condition. There are several wet spots but all are navigable. Also expect some rocky sections. Trail 11S is CLOSED. Due to a 100 yard long section of marsh that broke open leaving a 12-16″ of standing water. Trail 11N Closed indefinitely. The Gogebic Area Groomers – I have no new report from the Gogebic Area Groomers the last report was on 12/26. The Gogebic Area Groomers have a couple of closures/reroutes. Trail 1 north of the West Shore Resort is being logged this year. A reroute is being worked from Trail 1 to Trail 8 east. Trail 100 to connect to Trail 13 is also being logged this year so a possible reroute is being planned. We will keep you posted on the reroutes. In the meantime we need to wait for snow. Hang in there. The Watersmeet Thunder Riders – We will be heading out in the groomer today for the first time of the season. We will be grooming west on trail 2. Please keep an eye out for us and have patience we might be stopped clearing the trail PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU. <> <> <> Latest Trail Reports – Quick Links <>Postings From Regional Pages On Facebook
