Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/07
It’s been a long time since we have had a real winter like this one. I ended up putting my sled in the trailer and going up and parking at the trail head just south of Indian River cause I couldnt get out of here yesterday morning as early as I would have liked. I rode from there to Alanson and all those trails west of there. Picture of the map of the area I did below here. The only spots I didnt get to were Conway and Harbor Springs only because of time. Rode 6 hours and 120 miles and got back just before dark. Nice tight twisty little trails but make sure you STAY RIGHT on those as they arent very wide. When is the last time you rode where there is zero snirt and 2 foot banks all along the trails from the groomers cutting thru the snow. I went up to Cross Village and was at the start of the tunnel of trees. The road was well covered and I thought that would be cool to ride the tunnel on my sled but I didnt do it. Nothing is open there besides the gas station and they didnt win any brownie points with me on friendliness. No cell service and lots of wireless signals there. I asked if they had a password code and was responded to with a “no its private”……heck I give mine out all the time…..from there I went up to Larks Lake and Moosejaw junction where there was still no cell service but also no wireless signals…real escape, who needs those phones anyways and the girls working there were very nice plus I had a super delicious hot chocolate with lots of whip cream……from there back thru the loops and over to Pellsotn and the back to Alanson and then Indian River…….Great Riding on trails I have never done. I might wait for the next big storm and still go back and do the tunnel of trees. Quite a few sleds thru here already this morning and a few of them that came here yesterday to find the place locked up. At least they came back.
