Greetings Sledders,

Had to wait on getting something out until I had a chance to groom the Frederic trail to see first hand how it weathered yet another weekend of above freezing temps. That trail segment is like all the rest in that there are good stretches of white snow and stretches of snirty snow and I don’t see any changes in the immediate future based on the forecasts.

I continue to be surprised at what is left considering the fact that we had back to back weekends of thawing which is the worst possible timing because the trails get mushy and the traffic will be here regardless and understandably so.

`We had to stop grooming Sunday afternoon and were able to start back up this morning and hopefully the thaw garbage is behind us and we can stay on schedule.

We have a mixed bag of trail conditions ranging from poor spots to fair to good and all of the off trail riding is good to very good. If you don’t mind some occasional snirty stretches you will be fine as long as the Sun behaves

The base is compacted snow both white and tan. There are no rules when it comes to reporting base, therefore no reporter is right or wrong in his or her reports. It’s a matter of personal preference and I am of the mind set that base is what your skis are coming into contact with. If you are riding on a trail that is loose snow over ice you would want to know that beforehand, but you probably don’t care about the ice thickness. Another example is snirt. If snirty snow is what your skis are riding on wouldn’t that be the base? Again it’s a matter of personal preference.
