TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club – 12/31
I went for a ride on our trail system last night. I rode from the Kalkaska warming hut down to Ranch Rudolf and then up the north trail back to Kalkaska. We received 3 to 4 inches of snow two days ago. There is still a lot of ice on the trails. Can you ride? Yes but use extreme caution and watch out for ice in the corners. I would have to rate the trails poor to fair depending on what part of the system you are riding. The areas to the north seem to be fair and the snow seems to thin out to the south. I read a report from one of the groomers in Kalkaska that said they didn’t even start running their groomers until the middle of January last year. We are still running groomers trying to maintain the base so that when we do get snow the trails will improve quickly. Hang in there everyone the conditions should improve soon assuming we get some snow. Hoping for a great riding season in 2021. Happy new year everyone!
FROM Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> I need to post this image again because WOW. I can't recall the last time nearly all of the United States was forecast to be below average. Before anyone gets on the "SEE CLIMATE CHANGE IS FAKE" train... one of these below average maps DOES NOT negate the other 500 above average ones. Trends, folks. Trends. Nothing is a straight line. The warming temperature trend line is full of peaks and valleys with an overall increasing trend. 🙂 #miweather #keweenaw#westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylord#cadillac#traversecityI need to post this image again because WOW. After Thanksgiving, a large portion of the U.S. will likely see below normal temperatures into early December. And of course, there's southern Florida. 🌞
FROM Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club >> The first meeting of the season is in the books. Thanks to Peegeo's for supplying pizza for the meeting! Peegeos is a long time supporter of GTASC. Let's return the favor and support them whenever possible.
It was announced at the meeting that GTASC will be receiving a new Dubie drag for this season. (Our current drags are 20+ years old). This will be a welcomed addition to the fleet and cut down on our current maintenance time and cost. There is still plenty of work that needs to be performed on the trails. We will be brushing this Sunday. If you can, come on out and give us a hand. We would appreciate it! #traversecity... See MoreSee Less
